About The Samburu Game Reserve

The Samburu country to the north of Kenya is dry and semi arid, yet it hosts many endemic species of animals that can’t be found anywhere else in Kenya. Most of the game is found at the Ewaso Nyiro River. Except for rhinos, other Big Five – lion, leoprd, elephants and buffaloes exists in Samburu. This park hosts endemic species like the endangered Grevy Zebra, Beisa Oryx, Somali Ostrich, Gerenuk and Reticulated giraffe.
Bird photography is especially productive, with shrubs no higher than vehicle level, so eye-level shots are easy. Elephants mud bathing and crossing the river is often an attraction. The evening desert light is great.

There are numerous lodges and campsites within the park.

The camp sits on raised decks overlooking the brown river where the elephants sometimes make an appearance or the crocodiles come out to lounge by the river’s banks.
